Delivering More Toolkit
Delivering More is a human-centered design initiative that equips health systems with tools and principles to create safe, respectful, and dignified maternal and newborn care facilities in underserved settings.
Delivering More is a collaborative initiative led by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) and MASS, with support from the Gates Foundation and the Elsa & Peter Soderberg Charitable Foundation. It reframes health quality by centering the physical environment as a critical but often overlooked determinant of care. By championing collaborative, human-centered design, Delivering More seeks to foster ownership, trust, and meaningful engagement between communities, healthcare providers, and policymakers, while equipping stakeholders with resources to replicate and scale improvements worldwide.
Addis Zemen Hospital, Ethiopia
Now in its second phase, Delivering More is focused on disseminating findings, supporting Ministries of Health in high-burden countries, and equipping stakeholders with updated, peer-reviewed design principles for emerging evidence-based approaches including Zero Separation newborn care, Group Antenatal Care, and Postpartum Hemorrhage management. Beyond country-level support, the initiative is helping advance the global conversation on the role of space in maternal-newborn health—through presentations at leading health conferences, collaborations with agenda-setters like the WHO, and direct technical assistance.

At its core, Delivering More demonstrates that when health facilities are thoughtfully designed around the needs of users, they can do more than ensure survival. They can expand capacity, encourage families to seek skilled care, and foster childbirth experiences that are safe, respectful, and dignified for every mother and newborn.
