MASS is seeking an experienced full-time Graphic Designer to join our communications team. This role is ideal for a highly skilled designer who excels at translating complex ideas into clear, compelling visual communications across print, digital, and presentation formats.

Working closely with the Communications team and staff across the organization, this designer will help shape how MASS shares its work with partners, funders, clients, and the public. Primary responsibilities include designing presentations, project portfolios, publications, reports, proposals, social media assets, website graphics, and other communications materials while ensuring consistency across the MASS visual identity.

The ideal candidate combines strong graphic design fundamentals with excellent production skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

This is a hybrid role expected to work from our Boston office 3 days per week.

Responsibilities

• Work across the communications, business development and philanthropy teams to design and produce high-quality presentations, reports, proposals, portfolios, publications, and other print and digital communications.
• Create compelling visual narratives that communicate complex ideas with clarity and impact.
• Develop graphics and visual assets for the MASS website and digital communications, with an understanding of web design best practices.
• Maintain and strengthen the MASS visual identity across all communications channels.
• Collaborate with communications staff, creative director, architects, researchers, and leadership to translate content into engaging visual materials.
• Prepare production-ready files for print and digital distribution.
• Organize and manage design assets, templates, and presentation systems to improve efficiency across the organization.
• Incorporate feedback thoughtfully while balancing design quality, organizational priorities, and deadlines.
• Support the design of exhibitions, events, and environmental graphics as needed.

Desired Skills & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• 3-5+ years of professional graphic design experience.
• Outstanding portfolio demonstrating excellence in:
  • Presentation design
  • Brand implementation
  • Digital and print communications
  • Typography and information design
• Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
• Experience designing presentation systems in PowerPoint and/or Google Slides.
• Familiarity with Figma or other collaborative design tools.
• Understanding of web graphics, responsive design principles, and digital asset creation.
• Strong project management and file organization skills.
• Ability to balance creativity with efficient production workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with architecture, design, nonprofit, or cultural organizations.
• Experience supporting or maintaining websites, particularly content management systems such as Drupal or WordPress.
• Experience with exhibition graphics or environmental design.
• Basic motion graphics or video editing skills (Adobe Premiere Pro or After Effects).
• Illustration or icon design skills are a plus.

MASS is seeking a full-time Landscape Designer / Architect to join our team in Boston, MA. This is a hybrid role, with a minimum of 3 days per week spent working in the office.

MASS is a mission-driven design collective that aspires to great impact through interdisciplinary design. We collaborate with communities to create landscapes that promote human dignity and planetary health.  We work towards a regenerative design culture that advances economic, social, and environmental justice from the scale of a site to the scale of a system. • 0-5 years of related design and project-based experience, have a professional landscape degree, and if you have a license, wonderful!
• Proficiency in Adobe Suite, Revit, AutoCad and Rhino. Lumion is a plus.

You have specialized skills in these areas would supplement application:

MASS is seeking a full-time Operations Lead to join our team in the Africa Studio based in Kigali, Rwanda. We are a mission-driven design collective that approaches architecture with an interdisciplinary focus on improving people’s lives in measurable ways. This position is an opportunity to join a dedicated, diverse, and passionate team working to research, build, and advocate for architecture that promotes justice and human dignity.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations, this role will focus on the day-to-day operations of the Africa Studio while collaborating closely with the global admin team on broader organizational initiatives.

The ideal candidate will ensure smooth, efficient, and welcoming daily operations across our studio facilities, field logistics, and organizational culture. They will manage office systems and support staff, oversee vehicle fleet logistics, coordinate admin vendors, support the coordination of health and safety protocols across office and project site environments, and foster a positive studio environment through internal communications and culture-building events.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Office and facilities management

• Oversee daily office operations, facilities maintenance, and office support staff to ensure a functional, clean, and productive work environment.
• Field all incoming office phone calls, routing inquiries and messages to appropriate team members promptly.
• Manage Africa Studio administrative vendor relationships, contracts, service agreements, and performance evaluations.
• Manage office procurement, inventory tracking, and administrative record-keeping in alignment with organizational standards.

2. Logistics and fleet management

• Coordinate in-country and international team travel, transport, accommodation, and event logistics for staff and visiting partners.
• Manage and coordinate the company vehicle fleet, including maintenance schedules, driver assignments, fuel tracking, and compliance.

3. Health and Safety coordination

• Develop, update, communicate, and monitor the implementation of Health and Safety protocols for the Africa Studio.
• Support site safety protocols for the design teams, ensuring staff overseeing active projects are trained on, aware of, and implementing necessary safety measures for everyone on site.
• Track regional health risks, disease outbreaks, and security conflicts to update travel protocols, maintain staff tracking, and communicate timely safety guidance for work travel.
• Maintain studio emergency response plans, first aid kits, emergency contacts, and safety compliance resources across all facilities.

4. Internal communications and studio culture

• Coordinate internal communications for the Africa Studio, including managing updates for regular all-office meetings.
• Plan and execute studio culture and engagement events, including staff onboarding logistics, Lunch & Learns, Fanta Fridays, and team celebrations.
• Collaborate with the global admin team on cross-studio initiatives, policy updates, and operational improvement projects.

5. Perform other related administrative, operational, and logistical duties as needed to support studio growth and organizational priorities.

• Proven track record of managing fleet systems, vendor contracts, in-country and international travel logistics, and administrative record-keeping.
• Practical understanding of health, safety, and emergency response protocols in office environments, remote field travel, and construction sites.
• Excellent written, verbal, and formal reporting skills; experience coordinating internal communications and planning organizational events.
• Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda is required; working command of French is a strong added advantage.

• Ability to lead interdisciplinary coordination, scheduling and leading coordination meetings, and effectively communicating with subconsultants
• Skills necessary to effective apply MASS methodology to diverse projects and enforce high project standards
• Ability to maintain flexibility and humility toward the clients and communities we serve
• Attention to detail, consistency and completeness & ability to meet deadlines, respond to timely project delivery
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Rhino, Adobe Suite, and Revit. Lumion, LandFX a plus.
• Additional experience in food systems, climate smart design, low-carbon design, carbon sequestration and biodiversity analytics, ecology, conservation and landscape restoration or arborist, horticulturist or other certifications is desirable but not required.
