Harris County Remembrance Park
The Harris County Remembrance Park is a three-block memorial park in downtown Houston that transforms the former site of the District Attorney’s office into a civic space for culture, art, and justice.
Stretching from the historic 1910 County Courthouse to Buffalo Bayou, the park confronts the enduring legacy of systemic injustice and invites collective movement toward a restorative future.
Each block of the park offers a unique lens on justice. The first centers education, with reflective spaces for community gathering and learning. The second emphasizes artistic expression by engaging visitors’ reflection through multidimensional, multimedia, and performance-based art; and features a sculpture garden, gallery, and amphitheater. The third highlights restoration and envisions a rejuvenation of the waterfront, with immersive spaces for healing and play in natural surroundings.
Anchoring the site, the Justice Plaza features a series of circles for gathering and discussion at the edge of the Harris County Courthouse. The Heritage Trees protect the existing mature oak trees through a raised paving system, activating the understory for remembrance and learning. A Reflection Pool integrates a series of gradual steps, offering moments of quiet contemplation and community connection.
