Catherine Baten is the Director of Development at MASS, where she leads the organization’s philanthropic strategy and development operations to support MASS’s growing portfolio of design labs and projects worldwide. 

Catherine brings more than a decade of advancement experience across higher education, global nonprofits, and healthcare, most recently serving as Director of Development at Mustard Seed Communities, where she led the organization to its largest revenue year in history. She developed strong relationships with alumni and parents at Boston College that resulted in increased current-use, endowed, and planned gifts. Throughout her career, Catherine has been responsible for designing outreach strategies, supervising development teams, and implementing CRM-based tracking to increase accountability and visibility across teams.​

With a degree in industrial engineering from the University of Tennessee, Catherine brings a systems-oriented approach to building disciplined, transparent development operations that enable organizations to increase their impact. She is energized by collaborating with program and design leaders to craft compelling narratives, proposals, and reports that reflect the lived impact of MASS’s work and deepen long-term philanthropic partnerships. Outside of work, Catherine enjoys being outside and going for walks in new places.
