Cam Bailey believes that the natural world must flourish for humans to thrive. He champions nature-inspired design and sustainable construction practices and finds purpose in collaborating with partners who are dedicated to wildlife conservation.

As the Director of Engineering based in the Africa Studio, Cam leads a cross-disciplinary team working across structures, building systems, and environmental engineering. His work spans building design, material research, infrastructure, and large-scale planning, with a particular focus on projects that sit at the intersection of conservation and community development.

Cam’s practice integrates systems thinking with deep contextual engagement — strengthening material supply chains, supporting local livelihoods, and aligning development with ecological health. He works closely with architects, landscape architects, and planners to rethink how built environments near protected and park-adjacent areas can support both community needs and long-term conservation outcomes. This includes advancing approaches to land use, infrastructure, and community stewardship that reduce extraction, improve resilience, and reinforce the value of ecological assets.

Before joining MASS, Cam worked in the UK on a wide range of complex and award-winning projects across cultural, educational, and public sectors. He holds a Master of Architectural Engineering with First-Class Honours from the University of Leeds. He is a Chartered Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers and a Corporate Engineer with the Institute of Engineers Rwanda.
