The Living Monument
The Living Monument envisions a space that reconnects past, present, and future by returning land to Indigenous communities.
The proposed 100,000-acre site spans the U.S.–Canada border, acting as a site of empowerment for the Nations who have stewarded this place since time immemorial. This is envisioned to be a multi-phased project; the initial phase will encompass the demonstration of the regenerative landscape and includes the visitor center, living museum, gathering hall. The larger vision of the Living Monument will be developed over time and as the project expands.
Through habitat restoration, repurposed infrastructure, and a non-invasive network of interpretive and gathering spaces, the Living Monument will support ecological renewal and cultural reconnection across colonial boundaries.
The design features new visitor and learning centers, exhibition and research spaces, and convening halls for ceremony, gathering, and intertribal dialogue, providing a community-stewarded platform for Indigenous leaders to confront shared challenges by honoring the wisdom and leadership of their ancestors.
Through close collaboration with Tribal leadership, knowledge holders, and Indigenous communities, the work translated values of stewardship, reciprocity, and cultural continuity into a scalable spatial and programmatic framework.
